Compton and Chaffey needed an extra period to decide which ninth-ranked team would come on top on Friday.
Vince Alvarado saw his last-ditch three-point attempt at the end of regulation rim in and out, and Compton made the most of Chaffey turnovers in overtime to run away with their second win over the Panthers this season, 96-90.
"This was a hard loss; it didn't feel good," said Chaffey head coach Jeff Klein, whose team fell to Compton, 114-104, on Nov. 26 for its first loss of the season. "We should have won it in regulation. We put ourselves in a position to win. I was proud of that. What I wasn't proud of is we had a five-point lead (in overtime), but we had key turnovers."
68 Joe Walker scored a game-high 33 points and Pt G Kevin Thomas added 15 points and 15 assists for Compton, which snapped a two-game skid.
T.J. Smith led Chaffey tied with Compton (11-3) in the state at No. 9 with 27 points and an 8-for-8 showing at the foul line. Larry Dew and Chris Brown each scored 19, and Alvarado finished with six points.
