The Panthers were down most of the game. Mt. San Jacinto controlled the tempo and made 30 out of 34 free throws. Chaffey took a two point lead with 11 seconds remaining on a Chris Brown three pointer. Southern Mississippi bound pt guard Dwayne Green raised through the Chaffey defense and passed to Joe Tillman for what could have been an easy lay-up. Bobby Kovach rotated over to block / foul Tillman. Tillman stepped to the line with 5 seconds remaining in the game. He calmly sank the first, and then missed the second. TJ Smith grabbed the rebound but the referee stepped in. Kovach jumped in the lane before the release of the ball and Tillman was awarded a third attempt to tie the score at 76. Tillman didnt waste the second chance and knocked down the free throw. Vince Alvarado quickly in bounded the ball to super quick Larry Dew who penetrated the lane and found Bobby Kovach open underneath. Kovach went hard at the rim and got fouled with 0.2 seconds on the clock. After two long timeouts Kovach calmly knocked down the first free throw to ice the game. The second free throw was wide right and the game was over.
