After a regular season which ended in a three-way tie for first place and a coin flip to determine the playoff seeding, the New York Division I junior colleges are set for the Region XV tournament this week, the first step towards the eventual goal of reaching the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson (KS) next month.

Globe Tech, Bronx-Monroe and T.C.I. all finished regular-season play with 4-2 records, having split against each other while sweeping a pair from Westchester. Globe (17-8 overall) won the coin toss and will be hosting Westchester (14-15) in one semifinal, while #2 T.C.I. (22-8) will meet #3 Monroe (23-6) in the other semi. The winners play for the region title at Suffolk-Selden on 3/1 at 9 p.m.


Highlights of the Region XV regular-season contests:

11/20 Monroe 92 T.C.I. 85 Monroe started with a 17-0 run before the Generals recovered, eventually pulling even at 21-21. The Mustangs took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Kevin Josey midway through the second half. Jamel Jackson made 7-of-10 threes and scored 29 points for T.C.I., which also received 27 points and 11 rebounds from Shawn Hilliard. Monroe countered with 25 points from Lester Hunte and 20 points with 6 assists by Tyvon Williams.

12/20 T.C.I. 101 Globe 98 Globe led by as many as 25 points in the second half before T.C.I. rallied behind Kevin White (27 points, 10 assists) and Jackson (24 points). Dishawn Bradshaw scored 23 points and Rob Robinson scored 22 points for Globe.

1/05 Monroe 85 Globe 78 The Generals took a 44-40 halftime lead and maintained control by sinking 17 of 19 free throws in the second half. Westley Perryman led all scorers with 19 points while Herman Wrice added 17 points and Williams had 15 points and 6 assists for Monroe. Globe received 18 points apiece from Mike Campbell, Victor Garcia and Robinson.

1/10 T.C.I. 74 Monroe 70 - T.C.I. used a 48-30 rebounding edge and went ahead for good on a late basket by Terron Stowe. Perryman again had the game-high of 23 for Monroe. The Generals were led by Jackson with 18 points and Stowe with 14 points.

1/19 Globe 78 Westchester 62 - Campbell recorded 25 points and 10 rebounds while Garcia added 17 points and 6 assists for the winners.

1/26 Monroe 63 Westchester 54 - Monroe pulled away with a 12-2 run with less than seven minutes remaining. Jarrid Famous, a 6-11 freshman, led the Westcos with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Jamel Cromartie (14 points) and Williams (10 points) topped the Monroe scoring column.

2/02 Globe 87 Westchester 64 - Bradshaw and Robinson each had 23 points and Campbell contributed 16 points and 8 rebounds for Globe in the easy win.

2/04 Globe 92 Monroe 86 - Globe withstood a late Monroe rally as the Knights made 10-of-18 from the arc, including six by Steve Brignol, who finished with a game-high 28 points. Campbell was next for Globe with 20 points and 8 boards. Perryman paced Monroe with 19 points and Hunte and Scottie Payne added 13 points apiece for the Generals.

2/09 Monroe 82 Westchester 66 - The Generals ran up a 16-0 lead and never looked back as Perryman made 8-of-11 from the floor and scored 20 points. Jake Stevens topped the Westcos with 19 points, followed by Phil Ductan with 17 points.

2/12 Globe 97 T.C.I. 88 - The Generals received a pair of double-double performances from Robinson (24 points and 11 rebounds) and Campbell (23 points, 12 rebounds). Jackson dropped 26 points and White recorded 16 points and 10 assists for T.C.I.

2/14 T.C.I. 67 Westchester 62 - The Generals pulled into the three-way tie, riding the 25-point performance of Jackson against the visiting Westcos, who received 22 points from Famous.


Jamel Jackson , a 6-3 freshman guard at T.C.I., and Westley Perryman, a 6-2 freshman guard at Monroe, were named co-Players Of The Year in Division I for Region XV. Jackson, who attended Brooklyn (NY) Lincoln HS, compiled averages of 21.6 points and 3.1 assists. Perryman, who hails from East Boston (MA) HS scored 15.1 ppg. with 2.7 apg. Others named to the Region XV First Team: Jarrid Famous (6-11 freshman center, Westchester), Rob Robinson, (6-9 soph forward, Globe), Kevin White (6-0 freshman guard, T.C.I.), Herman Wrice, (6-7 soph forward, Monroe).
